NOKIA ONLY PLANET PROJECT - PHASE I

NOKIA ONLY PLANET PROJECT
PHASE ONE

How do belief systems affect artifacts?
TASK ONE
(a) Articulate your personal belief system in images/materials/sounds/words
(b) Make an inventory of your personal artefacts. (cultural inventory)
(c) Can you co-relate the two? How?
(d) Can you find “organizing principles”?

Lifestyle is embodiment of belief system.
My-ness.
Begin with self – connect to the world – what are the concentric circles moving from self outwards? – What are the artefacts that attract you and repel you? Why? What are the spaces in which they are located – what are the behaviours and relationships you have with artifacts?
TASK 2
List all your artifacts. Do it visually - place them on a five point scale between:
1. Public me and Private me
2. Means a lot to me and Doesn’t mean much to me
3. It gives me something or It takes something from me
4. Multi-dimensional or uni-dimensional (facets)
5. Has its own will/life or It doesn’t have its own will/life
6. Eternal/Timeless or Temporary/Transient
7. Easy to befriend or Difficult to befriend
Of these, the first three are linked to yourself. The last four are what you think of the object per se.
TASK THREE
Make a digital presentation which clearly maps:
1. Your space
2. Your artefacts (list them visually and help with useful text)
3. How do you categorise your artefacts?
4. Co-relate at least five aspects of your belief system with the artefacts that reflect them.
TASK FOUR
1. Take your first-level presentations up another level.
2. What is culture? Walter Benjamin. (Research briefly, understand)
3. What is my culture if I say I am "Indian"? (Figure it out.)
4. Find an artefact in your room, home, wherever, that leads you out into Indian culture.
5. Thorough this artefact, trace your way to at least 5 "essences" of Indian culture. Do not forget to look at materials, colours, textures, rituals, beliefs, finishes, nature-based artefacts, decorative aspects, manifestation in arts, etc.
6. Do you reflect these essences in any way (in terms of your artefacts, dress, behaviour, ritual, whatever)?
7. Make your presentation visual with appropriate text.
